Letter from the Director
In 1961, the (then) New Hampshire Conference purchased a defunct running girls’ horseback riding camp in Meredith, NH — creating Wanakee United Methodist Center!
What a difference 50 years make! From Wanakee’s beginnings as a camp offering just six different programs in 1964 to our current summer camp offering of 31 different programs, from sleeping in tents pitched in the field to 18 cabins and yurts spread out on the hill, from a summer-only facility to our year-round Homestead retreat, Wanakee has really grown.
Even with this growth, Wanakee has stayed committed to the quality experience that campers from our past will remember. We still sing after every meal, enjoy nightly campfires, celebrate our week with Friday Allellus and S’mores, and take time to praise God in the outdoors.
Throughout Wanakee’s 50 years our camping ideals have remained centered on providing campers with the best opportunities to grow in Faith and Fellowship. Campers stay in small groups (sites) that stay together all week in all activities. With a focus on small group camping, friends made at camp are some of the most caring and steadfast friends ever.
Come to camp to recreate and reconnect with your friends
Grace and Peace,
Michael Moore
