Jean MooreAs the phoenix rises renewed from its ashes, unsurpassed in excellence and beauty, Jean Moore has breathed a new sense of life into camp Wanakee. Although she has recently rejoined the Wanakee community as a staff member, she has always held the Wanakee spirit within her heart.
As a young child from Merrimack, New Hampshire, she attended various camps in the “beautiful, spiritual place in the hills.” Upon entering into adulthood, she contributed to camp as a staff member. In the few years following, she not only obtained a Masters in Education, but also volunteered for the Presbyterian Church in England. Jean was able to reach out to the British community via the support of her graduate school, the University of New Hampshire (UNH).
While at UNH, Jean met Michael Moore. Mike and Jean married and lived in Dover, NH, where their first son Emerson was born. They then moved to Canaan, Vermont before the birth of Alexander, their second child. In the midst of raising two children, Jean and Mike applied for the position of Site Director at Wanakee. In November 2005, Mike and Jean received and welcomed the job offer to act as the Site Directors at Wanakee.
Shortly after moving to Wanakee in December 2005, their daughter Eloise was born. Though Jean considers her three children her biggest accomplishments and blessings, the staff, volunteers, and campers know Jean is a blessing from above!
Michael MooreMichael is a graduate of Plymouth State University and has taught English on the elementary and secondary levels.
He and Jean have three children. When they are not busy around camp or playing Lego's with their children, Michael enjoys hiking and writing.
Jean and Mike are no strangers to the ministries at Wanakee. “Combined we have over thirty years of Wanakee involvement,” they write. “Both of us have been campers and summer staff and have served as volunteers throughout the years.” Jean is a former chairperson of the Wanakee Board, and Michael is a former member of the Finance Committee for Wanakee. “We are blessed to be a part of camp and to be able to share in the development of campers' faith.”
“We look forward to seeing you all at camp!”
Shirley StokesShirley is in her fourth year as registrar here at Wanakee. She is the proud mother of two daughters and a son and has three grandchildren.
When Shirley is not working at camp, she paints houses and works as a professional organizer. Shirley loves to work in the large vegetable garden at her home and to kayak.
At Wanakee, Shirley likes to kayak to Monkey Island and pick wild blueberries. She looks forward to seeing you at camp!
