My favorite Wanakee memory

One of my favorite memories of Wanakee was my third year of attending Senior High Week. On our last night, we got to sleep out under the stars in the field. Our site had grown incredibly close, so we all spread our sleeping bags out in a circle so we could all be close to each other and everyone was included. I think we got about 2 hours of sleep that night, but it was because we spent the night hanging out, talking, playing games, stargazing, and singing with each other.

Reflections on my first week at Wanakee

It was 1967, I had volunteered to counsel for the 9th grade Christian Adventure camp. It was the first year with the tents and hogans on the hill. Co-counselors were assigned and Donna McAdam (she was Cheney then) thought we ought to be in site #5 (now site #7). It was fine with me until I carried all my stuff up the hill on Sunday morning. It was up and a long way. But I grew to love it and would choose it today; it is the best site in the camp.

Wanakee is a peaceful place

I love to walk in the woods, down to the waterfront and up to lookout and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Wanakee.
