Interested in volunteering at Wanakee? No matter your skill set, we have a place for you!

Direct a program, spend a week as a counselor, care for campers as the nurse, cook in the kitchen, or work with our maintenance team.

Volunteers are an indispensable part of our summer and year-round operations. It is only through their dedication and generosity that Wanakee can serve and remain vibrant.

If you are interested in volunteering, contact the office and we will work with you to determine the best fit for your skills and interests.

Please note: Volunteers must be age 18 or older, with the exception of those who have completed our Leader in Training program.

Volunteer Resources

In order to ensure the safety of our campers, each volunteer must complete new paperwork on a yearly basis.

In addition to the Yearly Application/Release and references, all volunteers working with youth or other vulnerable populations are subject to a comprehensive background check. Volunteers will be sent an individualized link via email after submitting the Yearly Application and Release.

The Volunteer Manual explains Wanakee’s policies and procedures and provides other important information about what to expect during the summer season.

In addition to the Volunteer Manual, all volunteers will receive training on Wanakee’s policies and expectations prior to their time at camp. Details about training will be communicated through email, and occurs on an ongoing basis throughout the spring and summer.
